AUDITIONS: Red, White & Tuna, comedy By Ed Howard, Joe Sears, Jaston Williams
The residents of Tuna, Texas, are getting ready for the 4th of July Tuna High School Class Reunion. It's been several years since we left Bertha and Arles dancing at the end of A Tuna Christmas. Did the romance blossom? Has Didi Snavely heard from R.R. since he left in a UFO? Have Helen and Inita settled down with their boyfriends? This side-splitting spoof of rural life is full of fireworks and fun from the land where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. Red, White and Tuna is the 3rd in a series of comedic plays, preceded by Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas and followed by Tuna Does Vegas.
Parts available for: men & women, various ages 18+ Several characters have already been assigned to the actors who originated the roles in earlier OTP presentations of Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas. Remaining roles will be cast through the audition process. It is highly likely that performers will play more than one character and may also possibly play characters of the opposite sex.
Characters to be cast: Charlene & Stanley Bumiller - twin children of Bertha Bumiller, to be played by the same person (male preferred) Star Birdfeather & Amber Windchime - 2 flower children Pearl Burras - Bertha’s elderly aunt Didi Snavely - owner of Didi’s Used Weapons Joe Bob Lipsey - artistic director of the Tuna Little Theatre (very small role) Elmer Watkins - a veteran member of a nefarious organization (very small role) Leonard Childers - mayor & owner of radio station OKKK (very small role) Rev. THE AUDITION PROCESS Each director conducts auditions a little differently but, for the most part, it is a pretty simple process. Newcomers are welcome and no previous experience is required. For musicals, each person should prepare a song that showcases his/her vocal abilities and bring an accompaniment CD; a capella auditions are also fine. Small groups may be called to the stage to do cold readings from the script to give the director a feel for how individuals work together. For musicals it's possible that there may be some simple choreography to learn. |
